So... this weekend, Friday to be exact, the ladies & I hit the town for our official "S.A.T.C." weekend event. These chicks were HYPE about it, too. I on the other hand, was excited to be hanging out with the girls, but having only seen the show a good ONE TIME, I clearly wasn't as hype as the rest of the crew. When I got my evite, I responded... "I'll be there! I'm Carrie! Blah, blah, blah..." Not knowing exactly which one Carrie was. *smh* I figured it was SJP, since she's the star & for me to remember that name, it had to be her. My girl SP was like, "What are you wearing, tonight?" I said, "Well... I'm wearing a tutu & some leggin's... a cute shirt & some heels." To which I got *slience* & I responded... "I'm Carrie, right?" lmao! But... SP was like... "Um... we're gonna fight to be Carrie tonight, cause I'm Carrie!" lol!Never the less... the night started out with dinner & libation at T.G.I.Fridays! A total of (7) of us ended up showing up for the night out and we really had a good time. We had a waiter that seemed to be a tad bit on the "short bus" so... he was the brunt of a few of our jokes for a minute. Everyone decided to declare who they were. No one selected Miranda as their person. And no one selected Samantha, at first, either. I said... "Fine, I'll be Samantha!" And all I got were some big smiles and then someone said, "um... you might want to wait until you see the movie to decide if you want to be her. She's kind of a freak." *a bunch of giggles in the backgound* To which I responded, "well... I AM the freak of the group, aren't I?" lmao! (This comment had to do with a convo about the bullet (sex toy) on the way home from a superbowl party back in January). Never the less... I said I'd hold off until I actually saw the movie to declare myself as her.
Anyhoo... my girl, SP, got our tixs a couple of days in advance so... we were good. Or so we thought. By the time we got there, that joint was FULL! *smh* We ended up sitting in the 3rd row!! Grrrr... Watchin' a flick for two & a half hours lookin' straight UP at the screen will kill your neck! And it definitely killed ours. But... I really friggin' enjoyed the flick. At least from the standpoint of not having seen the real show more than once... so it was cool for me. Actually, we all enjoyed the show. I've read some mixed reviews from die hard S.A.T.C. fans, but for me... I actually got a different message out of the flick. I honestly LOVED the friendships that the ladies have & hold onto. And surprisingly (or not so surprisingly), I spent a decent amount of the flick thinking about some friendships that have fallen off. But, one in particular, that I miss on a much bigger/broader level. At the end of the flick... a couple of tears were welling up in my eyes and I was fighting tooth & nail to get them wiped & off my face before the house lights came on. I mean... heaven forbid that "I" (the one who's not the avid fan) would be one of the ones in tears (lol!) so... TRUST, I got them off my face real quick. And although the tears left/dried... the thoughts didn't. So... I'm not sure what my next move is or if I'm going to let things remain as they are. But... I really do love the relationship the ladies had. To be ride or die like that, unconditional, and to argue/fuss/fight and still forgive & move forward (even in the midst of a storm) is one of the things I absolutely enjoyed. (3) of the ladies I went w/ are BFF's and... I had to text SP to let her know how much having the opportunity to watch these ladies grow & interact over the years has been wonderful... and that it was such a treat to be out w/ them for the night. We had about a 5-10 minute text exchange about it (the next day). Aside from that... I ended up texting back -n- forth w/ an ex of mine, as well, which was also refreshing.
Anyhoo... we left there and SP thought we should hit up a club (out in dayum EGYPT). I was like... "nah, I'm not going." But... that lasted for all of 2 minutes, as SP was on my head about ruining the night or not being any fun if I didn't go. Grrr... So, I ended up going. It wouldn't have been so bad if we'd have taken the shortest route to get there, but as you can tell by the route of this story... the short route was not even close to the route we took. lol. Anyhoo... long story short, there was about 25 folks up in that joint (on the club side) so, we stayed all of 2.5 minutes and bounced. (You know I was screaming 'Thank you, Jesus!' in my head, right?) Especially since they wanted me to come back out w/ them the next night. (And two nights out in this state is definitely a no go for the kid). I just can't seem to get w/ the going out thing out here anymore. Long story short, though... Saturday, I was in bed early & asleep... after running (4) miles out on a trail. I just couldn't participate in night two. My body wasn't having it.
Well, let me run. I will be seeing S.A.T.C. again this week w/ another one of my girlfriends. She never watched the show, either, so... she isn't that hyped about going to see the flick. But... I'm positive she'll love it. It should be a sushi & movie night, so I am more than ready. I ate sushi (4) times last week. I just can't get enough of that stuff.
Be Blessed,
~BK

Okay...I simply thought the movie was adorable and the friendships were GREAT!
I would definitely go see that movie again.
Glad you enjoyed it and even more glad to hear you wiped your face clean before the theatre lights came blaring back on! lol
i've never seen a full episode of SATC. i've seen bits and pieces of the show, but never a whole episode. one of my girls was asking me to go watch it last week, too.. but i was hesitant cuz i've never seen the show and i'm not hyped up about it. so instead i went to watch "the strangers." besides, i kept hearing on the radio out here callers were calling in expressing how disappointed they were with the movie.. hmm, maybe i'll wait for it to come out on DVD.
but when i went to the movies this past weekend to watch "the strangers" i did see a whole mess of people at the theater for SATC. i seen this group of 40- to 50-something year old women.. all dressed up in what 40-50yr old women wear.. i thought it was cute they were all hyped up to watch the movies with each other. lookin' back, i'm wondering if THEY too were dressing up as the ladies in SATC [tho i'll say they weren't doing a great job at it, haha]
glad you enjoyed the outing with your girls!!
Twice... with the price of movie tickets your going to see it twice... it really was just "OK" for me... definitely not worth of seeing twice since it was very predictable to me
@ freckles... for the record, i wasn't ballin'. i just had a few tears welling up in the eyes. but... I wasn't going to up to explaining that i wasn't tearing up OVER the movie, but rather about a distant friendship. and i wasn't even tryin' to go into all of that w/ folks who aren't really my girls like that.
@ foxxy... i enjoyed the flick tremendously. i NEVER understood the hype of the tv series, but... folks get serious over SATC. i'm glad i went. we didn't get all gussied up for the joint, though... just dinner/drinks & a flick. but... flicks that speak to something that's going on in my life at the time... are the best flicks to see (at the time). i got something out of it. and anytime you can walk away & get something out of it... that's a great thing. go see it. don't wait for the dvd to come out before you do, either.
@ eb... well, technically, i didn't pay for the first one, as i haven't given my homegirl the money yet. but... yeah, i'll spend $8.00 to see it twice. since i'm not a fan like that, it served it's purpose for me. plus, like i said above, i got something out of it. i mean, it was predictable in some ways to me, too. miranda's man steppin' out was pretty much a given. you hold out for (6) months & think that dude isn't strayin'? um... negative. but i digress... but, yeah, it was enjoyable to me.
LOL sis.. i don't think i anticipated getting a "fan" so soon on blogspot!
